Exploring Seattle’s historical shoreline

Join David B. Williams, freelance writer and former NSWA president, on a walking tour based on his most recent book, Too High and Too Steep: Reshaping Seattle’s Topography (University of Washington Press).

More so than most cities, Seattle has shaped itself to suit its needs. Seattle has removed hills, filled tide flats, and created a completely new downtown shoreline. On this 1.5-mile-long, one way walk we'll explore the last vestiges of the former downtown bluffs, trace the island where Seattle was founded, and examine how the subterranean fill still affects the modern landscape.

Space is limited for this tour and tickets must be purchased online. Tickets are $10 for NSWA members, and members can bring one non-member guest. Tickets cost $20 for non-members.

When: Tuesday, July 26. The tour begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. near Pike Place Market and ends in Pioneer Square. Specific meeting instructions will be sent to registrants by email before the tour.
